Slowly going somewhere!

Discovered this little fella in the garden passing through. I'm not entirely sure about the classification, but my best guess it that it is the Rooipens Tortoise. If we see it again we'll have a look whether it has a reddish underbelly which lends it the name "Rooipens".

More beetles!

Found this rather strange looking beetle chomping away on our fig tree and was amazed (and rather upset) at the speed at which it was stripping the bark right from the tree. On closer inspection we found a couple of leaves that died due to this guy's appetite.

Tok-Tok Toktokkie!!

Came across this fella in the garden. 


 Striped Toktokkie (Psammodes striatus)

Definition of toktokkie - a dark rounded Afican beetle which strikes its abdomen on the ground, making a ripid tapping sound to attract a mate (Oxford Dictionaries Online).
